There are several factors that determine what size system you need. These include square footage, where you live, age of the house, insulation, number of windows and ceiling height. All factor in when determining how many BTUs (British Thermal Units) are required to heat and cool the space. Your best bet is to call for a free estimate, where we take all the applicable factors into consideration in putting together our recommendation.
The short answer is yes. If you don’t replace both units at the same time, it makes your system not run at its optimal level which can cause needed repairs and early failure of your system.
Typically, low refrigerant levels, defective fans or components, dirty filters or insufficient airflow over the coils can cause your unit to freeze up. This is why it is important to keep up with regular maintenance of your HVAC unit.
First and foremost, make sure to register your unit when you have it installed. To find out about your warranty, go to the manufacturer’s website and input the serial number for your unit.
The number one way to extend the life of your system is to provide regular system maintenance. Duct cleaning, changing air filters on a regular basis, cleaning and removing debris from outside units and upgrading the insulation in your home can all help extend the life of your system.
A good rule of thumb is to replace air filters every 90 days. However, if you live in a dry, dusty climate or have any pets, or have an older system, you may need filters changed out more often.
